Having a case of the Mondays? Tired of the same old cup of Joe each morning? We have some great energy boosting alternatives for you to try today including a delicious low calorie chai tea latte!

  • Chai is commonly made with milk, black tea and a variety of spices such as cinnamon and ginger. There’s some caffeine (15-55 mg in 8 ounces–but less than coffee (100-200 mg in 8 ounces) so you’ll get a hydrating lift. Plus tea is packed with antioxidants to keep you healthy and invigorated. The spices have health benefits as well and cinnamon even helps with blood sugar control. Check out our delish Skinny Chai Tea Latte recipe below!
  • Green tea is packed with health promoting antioxidants and has some caffeine (25-40 mg per 8 ounces) if you need that boost. So it’s got less caffeine than coffee and its got theanine, an amino acid that creates a mental calmness, yet makes you alert.
  • Lemon water can stimulate all your senses and wake you up. Good bye sluggish afternoons, hello lemon water!
  • Add flaxseed to any morning shake—its fiber will extend the boost from the carbohydrate to give you extra energy.
  • Peppermint tea helps to calm your stomach after a large meal which can make you feel healthy and energized. It also gives you minty fresh breath. Two for one!

While there are many more alternatives to your cup of Joe each morning; try one of these new, healthier beverages to help you get through your day the next time you have the case of the Mondays.

Here’s one of our favorite drinks instead of coffee… Chai Tea Latte–Enjoy!

Skinny Chai Tea Latte

Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 2 individual tea bags
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup non-fat milk
  • 4 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla soy milk
  • fat free whipped cream (optional)

Directions

  • Place the tea bags, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in the coffee filter of a drip coffeemaker. Add water and brew according to instructions on coffeemaker.
  • While tea mixture is brewing, combine the non-fat milk, soy milk and brown sugar into a small pan. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through and sugar is dissolved.
  • Pour milk mixture into coffee mugs; stir in tea, until evenly mixed. Enjoy!

With fat free whipped cream each tablespoon would add 15 calories

Per Serving (without fat free whipped cream): 78 calories, 1 g fat, 14 g carbohydrate, 5 grams protein, 1 g fiber, 12 g sugar, 75 mg sodium
